Core Values of
David's United Church of Christ
We
believe that…
...in
receiving God’s
LOVE
we are
called in return to share that same divine compassion and
care with others. Love is our inspiration, our motivation, and
the goal toward which we strive.
“…that
Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being
rooted and grounded in love.” -Ephesians 3:17
...we
are called to do
Justice.
We
understand that in our treating everyone fairly, in our equal
sharing of resources, we participate as faithful disciples in
the world.
“What
does God require, but to do justice, love kindness and walk
humbly with your God” -Micah 6:8
...we
are called to be
Inclusive.
In our welcoming or others, showing respect for all and
encouraging each other in the ministry that has been set before
us, we honor the vision of a world where all know peace.
“Welcome one another…just as Christ has welcomed you, for the
glory of God.” Romans 15:7
...we are
called to be
Dynamic.
Just as children are open to their world, learning and adapting,
so too are we. Being open to change and to growth in the
breadth and depth of our congregation is vital to our future.
“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children,
you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes
humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” -
Matthew 18:3
...we are
called to
Integrity.
To live the love we seek and are taught to practice forgiveness,
embody grace and hold each other accountable in all that we do.
“As
a prisoner of the Lord, I urge you to live a life worthy of the
calling you received. Be completely humble and gentle, be
patient, bearing with one another, in love. Make every effort
to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace.”
-Ephesians 4:1-3
...in all
things, we are to be
Grateful
for
all that has been entrusted to our care. As stewards of the
congregation’s tradition, resources and values, we move forward
in all things, mindful of all who have gone before and for all
that lays before us.
“Let
the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one
another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing
psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.” -Colossians 3:16
